K'NEX Rumbler by MRCHQ Design
|
The K'NEX Rumbler by MRCHQ Design represents an exercise in "can this
be done?". This, of course, first refers to the "Rumble Strip", a three
foot long motorized assembly with five cam driven arms which cause the
connected track to wildly oscillate up and down. Does this really
affect the train more than similarly configured fixed sections of
track? Probably not. Is it cool? We think so, but you tell us. Was it
fun to engineer? Absolutely. The other "can this be done?" aspect of
the Rumbler is the more conventional horizontal coaster layout. Unlike
standard K'NEX coasters, like the Serpent's Spiral, which "spiral"
around a single large vertical tower, the Rumbler stretches out
horizontally supported by several towers and supports. What all of this
really illustrates, once again, is the incredible flexibility of the
K'NEX system. Given enough imagination, time and parts, there are very
few creative limits to what you can accomplish with these marvelous
K'NEX products. The Rumbler was built using parts from the Serpent's
Spiral, Sawblade, and Double Ferris Wheel.

Verticoaster Submitted by Howie in Ft. Collins, CO.
Built using (1) Miniature Amusements RollerCoaster Tycoon Roller Coaster Construction Set (RCCS) with (1)Dual Bunny Hop accessory kit and (2) Double Ball Joint accessory kits. This small and very fast layout features an inversion, complete barrel roll, a vertical loop and uses extra Double Ball Joints for stability. This layout could be built without some of the extra Double Ball Joints but they do really come in handy.

K’NEX Panther Tank by MRCHQ Design
This motorized working model was built mostly from parts included with the Serpent’s Spiral Coaster but also included gears for the drive system from several other K’NEX kits. Though it took about eight hours to complete it was great fun to build, very rewarding to watch trundling across the carpet, and is a great example of the virtually endless creative possibilities inherent in all the wonderful K’NEX Thrill Ride products. Consider this: This whole idea for building the Panther came about as I sat watching my completed Serpent’s Spiral climb the lift and thinking that, you know what, the chain lift looks a lot like the treads on a tank. That little spark is all it took. With the tremendous value and flexibility of K’NEX kits the only real limitation is your own imagination. Maybe I should motorize the turret too.

K’NEX Cobra Loop by MRCHQ Design
The Cobra Loop is a variant of The Serpent’s Spiral and gets its name from the double loop shaped like the head of a Cobra. Also included in this design are two towers, a Vertical Loop and many twists and turns. Another project may be a more conventional high speed non-looping coaster inspired by “Goliath” at Magic Mountain in California. This would, no doubt, require more than one K’NEX set to build, but then, bigger is better! Revisit our site for future design postings and be sure and submit your own designs. We look forward to seeing and sharing them.
